Patriots' O'Brien, Penn State finalizing contract (AP)

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. ? New England Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien has agreed to become Penn State's first new head football coach in nearly a half-century.

Two people in the NFL with knowledge of the search told The Associated Press on Friday that O'Brien has told them he plans to replace fired coach Joe Paterno. Another person told the AP terms and details still needed to be set, that nothing was official and there was no signed contract.

The persons spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak about the search.

ESPN, citing unnamed sources, first reported Thursday night an official announcement would be made Saturday, and that O'Brien would remain with the Patriots as an assistant through the postseason. Two people have told the AP the report was credible.

South Korea's Lee calls on North to end nuclear activities (Reuters)

SEOUL (Reuters) ? South Korean President Lee Myung-bak called on North Korea's new leader to seize the opportunity and return to dialogue, saying he was prepared to offer help to revive the North's shattered economy if it suspends nuclear activities.

Two days after a state funeral for Kim Jong-il, North Korea sounded a bellicose note against the South on Friday, assailing Lee's government for lacking the decency to mourn the death of a compatriot leader and vowing to continue a hardline policy.

The North's new leader, Kim Jong-un, toured a major army tank division on Sunday in his first public activity as supreme commander, underlining that he would stick to his father's songun, or military-first, policy.

"We have left the window of opportunity open," Lee said in a New Year address broadcast from South Korea's presidential Blue House. "If North Korea comes forward with sincerity, we will be able to open a new era for the Korean peninsula together.

"As soon as North Korea suspends nuclear activities in progress, six party talks should be able to resume. Through a six-party agreement, we are prepared to ease the North's security concern and provide necessary resources to revive its economy."

The six party talks, involving the two Koreas, the United States, Japan, Russia and China, have been stalled since 2008 when the North walked away from an aid-for-disarmament deal.

Experts who study the North said it was unlikely it would take a dramatically different path under its new ruler, who at around 27 is believed to lack the experience or political support to initiate his own line of policy.

In a New Year message issued in its state newspapers that normally sets out policy for the year, the North made no mention of its nuclear programs which had been the key source of regional security worry during Kim Jong-il's reign.

Under Kim Jong-il's leadership, the reclusive state twice tested nuclear devices, as well as variety of missiles. Experts say, however, the North still lacks the ability to miniaturize a nuclear bomb to fix atop a missile.

The untested new leader is the third member of the Kim dynasty to rule but he had only been groomed for power since 2009.

Analysts believe he will rule with the aid of a close coterie that includes his uncle and key power-broker, Jang Song-thaek, at least in the early stages of the leadership transition.

North Korea has called for the resumption of the nuclear talks, but Washington and Seoul have been reluctant to rush back to the table, wary of Pyongyang's potential to engage in protracted negotiations only to walk away from its obligations.

Most analysts say the North will never give up its nuclear weapons program, as it provides the authoritarian state with the ultimate deterrent as well as a bargaining chip in negotiations.

Tension has eased over the past year after escalating to its highest level in decades in 2010 when 50 South Koreans were killed in two separate attacks.

Lee said the South would retaliate against any aggression by the North but he said he had hoped there would be progress on ending its nuclear program.

RolePlayGateway?

Hello, all! I come to you with a proposition. This was a role play that was posted on Gaia Online and it was a fantastic Final Fantasy RP. However, of course, it died. I had permission from the original author (TheGreatestSage) to post it again and yet, no one joined. I was thinking of posting it here too, with her permission, of course. Here's the premise:

For the passed two decades, Final Fantasy gained popularity among all of the people of Earth. The charming worlds, memorable characters, and their stories have made them believe in fairy tales once more. Some have probably wished these worlds would become real. A foolish wish, considering there is no such thing as magic, or any of the things the game offers.

At least to the people of Earth. To the Reliks however, it is a great opportunity.

These angelic beings were once revered by humankind as unsurpassed gods in an unknown, and discreet ancient era, deep in the depths of legends buried away with time. Few can even recall their true names, but tell their stories through tall wives tales stretching its truth and purity. Furious by the sins the people of the planet have committed, the angels met in secret, discussing the punishment that should be committed for the crime of forgetting the very fathers and mothers who bore them when the planet was young and robust.

Their powers have aged with their fleeting stories, losing much of the energy they had once before. To attack now would only make them a mockery. Unless they got their gifts back from the very energies of the fantasy world their children have created. With the bit of energy they mustered from a millennia of slumber, they create a portal, jarring the barrier between real and fantasy apart from the reflecting Icarian Seas. (It?s quite befitting, since the fabled Icarus fell here-just as the fallen Relikian Angels have to get into this brand new world.)

With the subtle disturbance caused by the Reliks, the people of Spira, Ivalice, Gaia, and all of the other worlds notices changes in their environments. Mako rivenes are slowly running dry, the newfound energy source in the Farplane is mysteriously vanishing as well. Monsters have begun to multiply at an alarming rate, and some passersby could swear they see the mountains discolor, as if they were to fade. But most importantly, all of these realms separated by barriers of strong magic have dissipated, uniting all of the worlds into one united planet called Parsima.

It has caused these segregated people and cultures to converge and get to know one another, and build relations. Still, they all seem to know the bad omen growing. Those with keen enough senses like magic-users, Summoners, or the Vierans to feel the change in the wind. It is slow, but if left to fester, it will grow into something more grave than their worst nightmares. Among the heroes already chosen to defend their own lands from chaos, they seek out a legend that they believe will unfold. The Returners, Summoners and their Guardians, Lone Skypirates, various travelers, and even modern bands of legends like AVLANCHE, and the WRO are all seeking the reason why the darknesses they have faced are reborn, and a solution to solve it.

Here's the rundown for those who didn't understand:

- To Earth, Final Fantasy is, of course, a bunch of awesome video games
- The Final Fantasy worlds are real though, and have been merged into one world by the Reliks (beings that were ancient gods of our world)
- Villains have been revived by and serve the Reliks
- Seven chosen ones from Earth are summoned to the new world of Parisma
- The chosen ones of prophecy and the heroes from the Final Fantasy games must unite and saaaaaave the wooooorld!!

Does this sound like something you would join?

Cairn Oil Exploration Most Successful Operation in Recent Times

The Sri Lankan oil exploration process undertaken by Cairn Lanka is one of the most successful operations in recent times in the region. Sri Lanka's dream of its own hydrocarbon reserves became true after the back to back discovery of natural gas in two wells in the Mannar basin by Cairn Lanka.

Cairn Lanka is a 100 percent subsidiary of Asia's fastest growing E&P Company. Cairn India, has notified the Sri Lankan government of its intention to enter the second phase of exploration.

The Indian company had invested $78 million for the process in 2011. Further investments are expected from Cairn Lanka, as the company plans to enter the second phase of exploration.

This announcement was made following the successful completion of the first phase of exploration, analysts said.

Cairn India is responsible for the delivery of significant domestic crude production from its operated assets across India.

With more than 40 discoveries to its credit date, the company has brought substantial benefits to India and to the states of Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat.

Three out of seven landmark discoveries in India in the last decade have been attributed to Cairn India.

Cairn India's 100 percent subsidiary Cairn Lanka is exploring in the Mannar basin. Cairn Lanka's successful drilling program, the first in Sri Lanka in 30 years - has established a working petroleum system in the frontier Mannar Basin. It has put Sri Lanka on the world hydrocarbon map.

Cairn Lanka (Private) Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cairn India?Limited, has successfully completed the first phase of the exploration campaign in Sri Lanka Block SL-2007-01-001. The exploration program?involved the acquisition, processing and interpretation of 677 square miles (1,753 square kilometers) of 3D seismic data and a three well deep water drilling program.

The state-of-the-art fifth generation drillship 'Chikyu', from Japan was mobilized for the exploratory drilling campaign in the SL 2007-01-001 block that commenced in August 2011. Prior to initiating the drilling campaign, Cairn Lanka had appointed CGG Veritas AS for collating the seismic data with the help of seismic vessel SR/V Viking II.

Cairn Lanka has completed the seismic program which exceeded the phase I commitment by about 20 percent and in the drilling program the company exceeded the drilling depth commitment by 50 percent.

The operations were conducted safely, in accordance with the highest global standards, within schedule, budget and in compliance with Sri Lankan regulations.

The support of the government and an effective partnership with the Sri Lanka authorities in Sri Lankan, were instrumental in ensuring the successful completion of the first phase exploration program.

Cairn India Limited, the parent company of Cairn Lanka, is listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange of India since 2007.

Cairn India is headquartered in Gurgaon in the National Capital Region, with operational offices in Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and Sri Lanka.

According to Platts, Cairn India is Asia's fastest growing and world's fourth fastest growing hydrocarbon exploration and production company. The average daily gross operated production was 149,103 boe in FY2011. The company sells its oil to major refineries in India and its gas to both PSU and private buyers.

The company has a world-class resource base, with interest in nine blocks in India and one in Sri Lanka.

Cairn India's resource base is located in three strategically focused areas, namely, one block in Rajasthan, three on the west coast of India and six on the east coast of India, including one in Sri Lanka.?
